ICN News – Indonesia has actually been able to carry out heavy equipment exports for a long time. However, because the heavy equipment industry is currently experiencing a slowdown, this has automatically affected the development of its sales, especially sales to overseas markets (exports). The decline in sales was caused by market conditions in Indonesia, which tended to adopt a wait and see attitude during the 2024 Election period. In addition, the weakening of the Rupiah exchange rate in recent months has also increased heavy equipment production costs, because some of the raw materials still have to be imported from abroad.
Export Trends
According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), in 2021 Indonesia successfully exported 146,593 tons of heavy equipment. In 2022, exports dropped sharply to 87,771 tons. Although exports increased in 2023, the export achievement still remained below the 2021 level. Then, in 2024, exports declined again to 96,291 tons. It appears that another decline will occur in 2025, because during the January–September period, export volume was only recorded at 70,496 tons. This means that total exports for the entire year are estimated to reach only 93,994 tons. For a clearer picture, see the table below.

Exports by Product Type
In foreign trade statistics (exports-imports), heavy equipment is classified into 10 HS codes, namely: 84271000 (Forklift trucks self-propelled trucks powered by an electric motor), 84272000 (Forklift trucks other selfpropelled trucks), 84279000 (Other forklift trucks), 84289090 (Other machinery lifting/ handling/loading/unloading machinery other than escalators, lifts, conveyors, etc.), 84291100 (Bulldozers and angledozers track laying), 84291900 (Bulldozers and angledozers other than track laying), 84292000 (Graders and levelers), 84295100 (Frontend shovel loaders), 84295200 (Mechanical shovels, excavators, and machinery with a 360 degree revolving superstructure), 84295900 (Mechanical shovels, excavators, and shovel loaders excluding frontend shovel loaders and machinery with a 360 degree revolving superstructure).
Of these 10 types, the one most widely exported so far is Mechinery shovels escavators Machinery with a 360o revolving superstructure under HS code 84295200. In 2021, Indonesia successfully exported 127,727 tons of this type of heavy equipment. In 2022, exports dropped sharply to 76,109 tons. In 2023, exports increased slightly, before declining again to 72,222 tons in 2024.
Another type of heavy equipment that is also widely exported is Mechanic shovels, excavators and shove loader excl frontend shovel, mach 360 revolving superstructure under HS code 84295900. Exports of this type have actually continued to increase, from 5,550 tons in 2021 and continuing to rise until reaching a peak of 10,090 tons in 2024. In 2025, another increase is expected, because during the January–September period export volume had already reached 12,265 tons, meaning it had already exceeded the total for the whole of 2024.
